Do you set goals for your day? I guess it’s the former teacher in me, but I set goals each morning for the day ahead. As an author, I find it helpful to set my writing goals in chapters and sometimes in hours I plan to spend writing. Other writer friends of mine measure their goals in word count or number of paragraphs.

All of these ways of measuring our writing productivity can challenge us to stay on task and set us up for success- as long as we stay focused.

So in the spirit of goal-setting (and trying to stay focused…ha!) here’s my plans for today:

Continue my 100th round of edits

After getting some valuable feedback from my beta readers, I’m incorporating some of their suggestions. Plus I’m taking some time for another once over of my book. (Although, if it’s the 100th time, I guess it’s technically not a once over.) Anyway, only ten more chapters to go!

Set up another website

I do love creating websites! Actually it’s a love/hate kind of thing, but I’m willing to give it another try. I plan to create a website for our local writing organization, the Women Writers of Catawba County. Website creation is where I tend to get lost down the rabbit hole, but it’s oh so much fun! I just need to remember to do it in baby steps and not all at once.

Host the Storytellers

One of our satellite groups from the local writing organization meets each Thursday at my home. Our time together provides much-needed feedback and support with lots of laughter and comraderie. We decided to name ourselves the “Storytellers,” and you should hear the stories we tell!

I host a separate group on Tuesdays, and we are not yet named, but if any of my group members have ideas for a moniker, I’m open to suggestions. This group also provides community and love for our craft and each other. Recently we learned all about having a “Victory Jar,” and we plan to implement it at our next meeting.

What are your goals?

The subtitle above says “A Typical Day in the Life of This Writer” because I realize that there’s probably not a typical day for all writers. We’re all very different, but I’ve learned by meeting so many other authors that we’re all so similar, too. What a blessing to be a part of this creative community!

So what about you… do you have goals for your day? Feel free to comment below!

Happy goal-reaching everyone!
