My new books came this week, and I’m so excited! As an author, there’s nothing like holding your finished book in your hand. You spend weeks, months, years of your time planning, writing, editing, and rewriting, so when you finally have an actual book in your hand, it’s amazing.

As an indie author, the work goes far beyond the writing and editing process. I’ve learned so many new skills, including formatting, graphic art, publishing, and marketing. Thankfully, I’ve had a lot of help along the way.

For DRASCANDAR, I enlisted the assistance of a fantastic artist, Peyton Judith. She brought my vision to life for my new book cover and for the cover of a new edition of VARLANDRIA, the first book in the BREKENLIGHT series.

My son contributed to DRASCANDAR with his catchy lyrics to a song he wrote specifically for my book. He also put his extensive social media and marketing skills to work when he created a book trailer video to help me with advertising.

In addition to my son, my husband and mom took part in the creation of this work. They read every new chapter I brought to them and helped me with brainstorming. My mom is the absolute best proofreader, so she’s been the first one to read every one of my books, including DRASCANDAR.

And finally, my writing group, the Tuesday Night Writing Coven, is full of incredibly talented women who support me in more ways than I can count. From brainstorming to beta-reading to navigating the trials and tribulations of self-publishing, this group has been there for every step. Our Tuesday night meetings have grown to include delicious meals and deep conversations, and these fellow writers have become family.

If someone had asked me five years ago what I’d be doing today, I never would’ve imagined I’d be an author with three novels and a soon-to-be picture book out in the world. I’m so honored and thrilled to be able to write for children, and I can’t wait to get started on the next book!
