I’m so excited to announce that after a year of drafting and drawing (and writing a middle grade novel, DRASCANDAR), my children’s picture book is finally ready!

ONE CAT SHORT OF CRAZY is scheduled for release on Saturday, September 19, 2026!

Perfect for children and cat-lovers of all ages, ONE CAT SHORT OF CRAZY is an adorable picture book that tells the story of a kitten’s adoption into a new, very large feline family.

Christopher the kitten and his three sisters waited in the shelter, hoping for a place to call home. One sister was chosen first, then a couple came and adopted the other two girls, leaving Christopher all alone. The next day, the couple came back for Christopher and brought him home to his two sisters and their new family.

With the addition of Christopher, the couple now lived with a baker’s dozen of kitties, and a sign in their kitchen proudly proclaimed that they were “one cat short of crazy.”

Christopher’s new home was filled with a variety of colorful feline characters. As he struggled to find his place among the other cats, he wondered if a baker’s dozen was a bad thing and if being crazy was a problem. 

With endearing characters and sweet storytelling, this book shares the tale of a little kitten searching for his place in his new world and finding a lot of love along the way.

ONE CAT SHORT OF CRAZY is based on the true story of our kitten, Christopher. We adopted him from Fur Babies Rescue and brought him home to live with his two sisters and our ten other cats.

The conversation between Soft Lady and Tall Man took place right in our kitchen as my husband and I laughed about this tiny kitten being the one to finally make us crazy. I’m happy to report that we truly are crazy about this little guy, and we love our life with our baker’s dozen.
